I've been out of the electric game for a while, but I highly recommend people check out the stuff from Basic Audio. I spent a lot of time chasing Hendrix/Trower tones and their Gypsy Fuzz really hit the spot. At the time, I was playing a strat through a 100w Marshall Vintage Modern. I used to goose the Gypsy with a Basic Audio Futureman and holy MF it sounded good. The Scarab Deluxe from BA also has a ton of great sounds in it.

All of them.

I can't commit to just one, but currently these:

Tone Bender - Thorpy FX Boneyard
Fuzz Face - Analogman Sunlion
Octave Fuzz - Dunlop Hendrix Octavio (white cheese wedge)
Big Muff - EQD Hoof Reaper
Random - DOD Carcosa
But using this format:

Tone Bender - Boss/Sola TB-2W
Fuzz Face - white dot NKT 275 Analogman Sun Lion
Octave Fuzz - nah, just give me a RAT + octave like the EQD Life Pedal
Big Muff - EQD Hizumitas/Basic Audio TriRam/JPTR Warlow
Random - Basically every other fuzz pedal I've ever played because I am sick and I can't get enough

I also have a great new Muff style from DAM-its surprisingly dynamic and has a great tone sweep:

I've been really digging the Visual Sound Angry Fuzz recently.
I had one for a bit when I was introducing myself to fuzz and I didn't know what I had. Just this week I was listening to some clips of myself using that pedal and holy shit it is wicked sounding. I miss it immensely now.

I've been using a custom one-off for the last year or so which is fuzz face based with a green ringer on the front end of it along with some other tricks (bias and tone knobs, switch to engage another transiter)

I've tried a few muffs, they sound wicked by themselves but disappear in the mix so I gave up with them. In hindsight Id probably be fine boosting the mids before or after it to not get so lost, but oh well, I like my fuzz face great these days

ALL THE FUUUUUZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!
Hi, my names Bzrkrage. It's been a full week since I bought my last Fuzz......(welcome to Fuzz-aholics Anon)

I still really like my Arctic White Fuzz from Bearfoot. I've had it for many years with no complaints. I think it's a hybrid but I'm not sure. I also really like the Atreides Weirding Module, which is just a lot of fun to play around on.

I have one fuzz pedal.

I dont like it very much

I think this is the best thing that could have ever happened.

Now I am safe.
No, it means now you have to try all the others to find one you like.
I used to have a huge (HUGE!) collection of mostly vintage and a smattering of boutique fuzz. It's a deep and expensive rabbit hole.
Mostly gone now to fund house downpayment.

The Muff family at one time (I know, those two Foxeys, the Little Muff and Muff Fuzz aren't muffs, I did have a Guild Foxey Lady triangle muff, but it's not in this pic)

Had a load of Fuzzrites and 3 Fuzz faces, and a bunch of Tone Benders.
The prize of the bunch was this jerms MkI, but it too fell to the sword of housebuying

I went down the Fuzz rabbit hole a few months ago…

My 1971 Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (with TFK BC108C Resistors) is my favourite fuzz pedal by far (for my ears of course… and eyes haha). The way it cleans up when you roll back the volume on your guitar (especially single coils), is EXACTLY what I was chasing tone-wise. 3-volume on your guitar, you have crystal clear cleans. At 5, a little dirt if you dig in. At 7-8, over drive. 9+, soaring Fuzz baby…

At around 60%-75% of the way up the “Fuzz” dial on the pedal itself, you have the gain of most Germanium ones I’ve tried so far (Analogman white/red dot, vintage germanium FF’s, GHS legends of fuzz). If you want overkill fuzz, it does that too but it is not muddy. BC183 transistors (ie Eric Johnson) are cool but too scooped/dark to my ears compared to BC108C, though they too give you a lot of gain.

I’ve had a chance to try a bunch of vintage Big Muffs / new takes on them but they’re not my thing, too dark/too much gain for my music taste.

Tone Bender-type (3 transistor) fuzzes are cool (I have the GHS LoF Bender but never use it now that I have my holy grail Fuzz Face), but I don’t like that they don’t clean up as well as the simple 2-transistor Fuzz Faces do.
