I've been really digging the Visual Sound Angry Fuzz recently.

 

I had one for a bit when I was introducing myself to fuzz and I didn't know what I had. Just this week I was listening to some clips of myself using that pedal and holy shit it is wicked sounding. I miss it immensely now.

I've been using a custom one-off for the last year or so which is fuzz face based with a green ringer on the front end of it along with some other tricks (bias and tone knobs, switch to engage another transiter)

I've tried a few muffs, they sound wicked by themselves but disappear in the mix so I gave up with them. In hindsight Id probably be fine boosting the mids before or after it to not get so lost, but oh well, I like my fuzz face great these days

I have way too many fuzzes for someone who barely uses fuzz. But I found the Boosted Fuzz by Southampton Pedals was the best at getting along with other pedals and amps. Very flexible, if you can find one.

 

Big muff and tone bender were the sounds I preferred from the JHS show fuzz episode. Brand and model - havent tried any yet.

Honourable mention to a particularly good D*A*M Mk II Professional loaded with OC71’s from 2007 that I had- major regret selling that. Had close to 100 epic rare fuzzes from various builders, but this one stood out.

Shin-Ei Companion FY-2; a sibling of the Fuzz-Rite and Orpheum. I have an original but I've probably built at least 6-8 clones with various mods as well. Never disappoints. Good enough for Dan Auerbach, good enough for me.

 

I've been out of the electric game for a while, but I highly recommend people check out the stuff from Basic Audio. I spent a lot of time chasing Hendrix/Trower tones and their Gypsy Fuzz really hit the spot. At the time, I was playing a strat through a 100w Marshall Vintage Modern. I used to goose the Gypsy with a Basic Audio Futureman and holy MF it sounded good. The Scarab Deluxe from BA also has a ton of great sounds in it.

 

From a practical use perspective. Function f(x) - Cannon
It's a 2 in 1 pedal. Astro Tone and Octavia (switchable octave). Run them independently or run them into each other. It's a really magical fuzz.

 

MK IV tone benders in general-love them. I have both an Analogman Sunbender and a DAM/Sola MK IV and they're my favourites. Fuzzface is a close second, I have a red DOT NKT Sun Lion that I also really like.

 

I also have a great new Muff style from DAM-its surprisingly dynamic and has a great tone sweep:

I love the tweakability of the new King Tone Minifuzz with just silicone or a GE hybrid as your base options.

 

Current favourite is the Jam Pedals Fuzz Phrase Ltd.

 

Those are gorgeous pedals.

 

Deep Trip BOG Fuzz - is may fave- very versatile.

 

This is actually a real cool combo. The Believe has the upper octave and the roto has lower. Roll the tone all the way off on the guitar and ride the volume for anywhere from eerie ring mod to beautiful bells or all out octave mayhem.
