Hey Folks,
This is my first official post - hope it’s not a stinker!:)
Ok, here is my challenge. I have a tweed Princeton clone in a beautiful (oversized) 2x10” combo, crafted by Greenbased Designs, and the 10s are nothing special. I picked up an Eminence Legend 1058 as one of my speakers and hoped to find and pair an Eminence Legend 1028 with it but I cannot find a used one anywhere and I have been religiously scouring Kijiji and Marketplace (as well as this site) to find one…no such luck.
So my question is this…is the 1058 (alnico) the best accompaniment to the Legend 1058 (for this amp), or could I extend my search to include something else?
I play a lot of blues and classic rock and although I play at home with this, I am trying to play with the amp in a band situation, so that would be my use. I also prefer to play with Humbuckers.
Let me know what I need, and if any of you have one I can buy from you:)
Thanks,

Shawn

This is amazing! I was going to try and track down the ‘builder’ of this amp. I know it’s in a Greenbased cab, but you built this clone? I would LOVE to have a proper chat with you, because I have so many questions:) lol
And I am not sure it came to me with the THD Vintage 10s in it. The ones in there don’t appear to have any of those markings.

IMO, pairing that speaker with a 1028 would be ideal, though they are expensive. I've used the 58/28 combo in a number of Fender amps and was always impressed. I also agree with @RBlakeney, that the THD 10s (if you can find them) are an excellent substitute for real vintage AlNiCo 10s (e.g. P10R/Q Jensens) BUT they're not very loud. If you want max volume, another 1058 would do the trick and still sound good with that amp.

I think I was mainly looking for the same overdrive characteristics, but just later breakup and more volume… which is why I bought the 1058 (and had a feeling others would mention the 1028s). But the more I hear you old farts show your love for the THDs, the more I feel I may not want to mess with a good thing. I really do love the sound of these in the tweed Princeton clone, but just wanted all of that with more volume. I guess I could mic it in louder situations. I am reall y curious to see what a 1058-1028 pairing would sound like in this combo.
Maybe I just have a classic case of ‘grass is always greener’:). Lol

I’ve had a pair of blue frame Eminence (1028’s) in a 210 and it was ok. I’m not as big a fan of these as some are.
Best 210 mixed speaker setup I’ve ever heard is a Weber 10A125 and a 10F150 in the same combo. They compliment each other beautifully and that would give you the headroom to play with a band.
