I found a helpful resource for identifying which products have tariffs when coming from the U.S.: Find the tariff applicable for your product | Canada Tariff Finder.

Below are some of the more common products that I assume will be of interest to many here. These apply specifically to goods imported from the U.S. into Canada.

Keep in mind that this information can change at any time. It's also possible I may have misinterpreted something in my research, so please don't rely solely on this list—make sure to do your own search and verification.

Guitars from USA to Canada
9202.90.90.10 - Guitars
Currently no US surtax

Amps from USA to Canada
8518.50.00.00 - Electric sound amplifier sets
25% US surtax

Guitar Cases from USA to Canada (luggage)
4202.19.00.00 - Luggage
25% US surtax

Guitar Pedals from USA to Canada
8543.70 - Other machines and apparatus (pedals are included in this apparently)
Currently no US surtax

Guitar Parts from US to Canada
9209.92.10 - Parts used to manufacture guitars (bridges, saddles, pickups...)
Currently no US surtax

What difference does it make? The baboon might have a fit in the middle of the night and tweet that he'll increase or decrease or remove or add new tariffs or redefine up as down or some other insane nonsense. And then change its mind 10 minutes later, and then exempt some stuff cos someone paid him off in crypto and then put them back on again and then take them off once all his rich friends have bought tanking stocks and ... there's a pigeon shitting on the chess board and we're all pretending it's OK. It's like dealing with North Korea at this point.

I'm a huge fan of the Kiesel I ordered direct, which makes this whole situation a damn shame. We literally don't know what the tariff situation will be like by the time the average manufacturer finishes building a guitar to order. The uncertainty is by design. Makes it very hard to make any business transactions with the future in mind.

Based on my research, the Canadian tariff code (HS code) for guitar pickups would be 9209.92.10. Same code that covers parts and accessories for string musical instruments, such as guitars, specifically for use in their manufacture. Currently, there are no tariffs on guitar parts imported from the U.S. into Canada under this code.

I need some tires that aren't available in Canada. I will have to order in the US and go down and pick them up. They are made in Thailand. 25% tariff or not? There seems to be conflicting info. The TariffFinder site doesn't differentiate where things are manufacutred.

<edit> looking closer, can I safely guess this means Made in US:
Treatment: MFN-US
Duty: 7 % + surtax rate 25%

and this means NOT made in US:
Treatment: UST
Duty: Free

You just have to hope whoever is filling the invoice for the custom is doing his/her job right.

Sometimes people mistakenly fill the country of expedition for the country of origin.

Cool - but still in flux if at all accurate:

"A spokesperson for Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, whose department is responsible for administering the tariffs, did not reply to a request for comment on the Oxford report."

The relevant tariff codes:
HS Code 8518.40.00 – Audio-frequency electric amplifiers
HS Code 8518.50.00 – Electric sound amplifier sets

A head would almost definitely be code 8518.40.00. A head/cabinet combo, if sold together, might be Code 8518.50.00. It's a little unclear how these codes apply to combo amps (i.e. amplifier and speaker together in one unit). I've seen commentary that the second category really refers more to stereo systems that have multiple components and that combo amps should fall into the first category.

Regardless, the 25% applies to both categories.

I feel like UPS will apply a tariff to a pedal even though it shouldn't be included right now - decisions..
The seller fills out the description on their customs forms - you could ask them to include the HS code as part of the description that way UPS can't apply an arbitrary classification. Refer the seller to the Reverb list if they need an official source for the code.
