I also wouldn't have mentioned Neil Young the way Beato did, but I kind of agree with his assessment. There's no doubt that his electric guitar playing is hugely influential and popular among guitarists, but I'm one of those who thinks he really should stick to acoustic guitar, piano and voice. I love the songs, just not the electric guitar playing in them. Nevertheless, I think he belongs on such a list, my personal tastes, likes and dislikes notwithstanding.
Well that's just it, his rant about Young was more about his own taste and less about Young's place in rock history. He was a major influence on the last significant subgenre of Rock music- a genre that brought back electric guitar to the forefront of music once again. They don't call him the Godfather of Grunge for nothing.
I saw him in the early 90's with Sonic Youth as the opener. It was a fitting choice. Great concert.

There are definitely some names on that list that I can't understand, and some absolutely glaring omissions.

I've been a fan of Neil Young since Heart of Gold, but his electric playing always left me cold. Nevertheless, to deny his impact in that context seems off for sure.

I'm kinda surprised Beato ranted on Neil.

I would absolutely have Neil listed. For all the reasons ZZ mentioned and more. Is he my favorite? No. Do I hate the solo for Southern Man? YES!!! But to deny him a spot would be wrong. There are waaaaaaaaaay more fitting people to remove to make room for Goven & Holdsworth.

And Blackmore!!!

And Blackmore!!!
I was commenting specifically on Beato upset being about Govan and Holdsworth's omissions.

Robben Ford for f's sake!!!!!! OMITTED!!!
Yngwie?
Trower?
Ace?

Hell... I'd add Roy Clarke before I added Rick's Picks.

EDIT: Ritchie is #75.

my bad, must have missed it. Really though, he should be higher on the list IMO.
It’s funny, he’s ranked higher on the list of 100, but 75 on the 250.
Andy Summers is in the 80’s on the old list, and #250 on this. What happened that he’d actually miss the cut if it were just 100?

I don’t think they know. And it’s probably a completely different set of “experts” this time around.

Didn't even look.

What does Rolling Stone know about music?
I saw it come up in some URL the other day. I didn't bother either. Those lists are just to grab attention and they are someone else's opinion. They never have you or me on the list Mike, so I know they don't know what they are talking about. :)

No Blackmore? Did I miss it?

Nevermind that I have never heard of at least half of the names on that list. It's almost like if you asked a group of waitresses to list the best doctors in the world.
Don't get me started, my assessment of Rolling Stone mag and the RnR Hall of Fame are negative .... to those guys, Jethro Tull could be one of the Beverly Hillbillies .... Rolling Stone has a bad tracking history about musical relevance.

But, the Grammys sure know who Jethro Tull are!!
They are the loudest, baddest, most aggressive Metal band of the late 1980’s!

Rik Emmett, Colin James, Alex Lifeson ??
I am quoting Rolling Stone magazine.
The called Triumph, " A faceless, bland and generic band " ....

Rolling Stone magazine sucks !!!!

I think that you mean the 1989 MTV music awards, I was there !!!!

It was so shocking that Jethro got the best Metal LP that year ..... it was so silent that you could hear all those jaws dropping .....

Even worse was the time REM's " Losing My Religion " was rigged to topple Queensryche's " Silent Lucidity" a small riot ensued, they kick some folks out of the building for it.

When REM went up to get their award, they were very nervous .

I wasn’t sure… I rolled and lost on the Grammys. I thought MTV were more in touch, so I went with the historically clueless Grammys.
