Just reminiscing about these rock bands that I used to listen to back in the days. I'm sure there are some that I forgot about. Not all but some would tour around the country and play at school dances or other small venues.

If Blue Rodeo is old enough
Keelor and Cuddy have been together since the late 70’s, formed Blue Rodeo in 83 or 84ish… Outskirts was 1987. They get my vote though.
My wife is a bit older than me, she’s seen Blue Rodeo at some pretty small venues way back when they were starting out.

Not rock music per say..... But I got for an X-mas gift in 1978 an LP by some country rockers.... The Good Brothers. The LP: "Doin' The Wrong Things Right!" Their lead player Danny McBride lent his rock guitar licks to that LP that really made me take note of what they were capable of. Here's an example:
