Katana Mini extension speaker mod question

So I found an extra Cliff S2 mono switching jack lying around and figured I'd try the following mod:

However, now when I plug in my extension cab (16 ohm) I get no sound. The internal speaker still works when I unplug the speaker cable from the jack. I double checked the soldering on the lugs of the switching jack and everything looks good - even re-soldered them just to be extra sure but still no change. I feel like I may be missing something simple but hoping some of you experts might be able to help me figure it out :)

I'm not an expert but I will try to help.

1) Do you know how to test for continuity with an electronics multimeter?
It is a very useful skill to learn. If you have a meter and know how to do continuity testing,
I will go into more detail once you have responded to this question.

2) Are you sure your speaker cable is OK? (it happens)

1) It's been a while but I do have a multimeter and I was thinking of testing for continuity as well.

2) Cable is good because it works with my other amps. I plugged it back in to one of my other amps and turned it on to confirm the cable was not the problem.

The stock speaker is 4 ohms, so be sure to use a speaker (or cab) that is at least 4 ohms. It is a solid state amp, so you'll do no damage going above that, you'll just lose power. We used an Eminence Governor (8 ohms) in the video, but you can use whatever speaker suits your fancy.

@jbealsmusic may be able to help. He did the mod/vid.

Indeed!

If you copied the video exactly, you wired it backwards (not your fault). If you look closely, we wired it wrong in the video. He soldered them wrong while I was filming, but we never noticed. I was off doing other things when he first went to test it and it didn't work. He then fixed it by switching the wires without telling me.

The video was fully edited and released for a long time before I started getting emails and questions about the mod not working for people. Every time, it was due to people wiring it backwards. One person was adamant they copied the video exactly. So, I watched the video again, and sure enough, it's backwards in the video. 🤦‍♂️

In the pic (from the video) the black/red wires are coming from the amp, and the cloth covered wires are coming from the speaker.

Wiring it like this would cause exactly the behaviour you describe. They should be swapped. Red/black should be on the top lugs shown in this pic (those are the common/main lugs), and the wires from the speaker should be on the bottom (the ones that disconnect when something is plugged in).

Good times!
