The best story about him was from that Hail Hail Rock n' Roll movie when Keith explains how Chuck always traveled to gigs with his clothes and an ES-355 in a regular tolex case. He'd fly with it and check the guitar that way. Apparently he went through several guitars because eventually they'd get smashed up and he'd just go out and get another one.
He showed up for a gig in Toronto in the ‘80’s with no guitar at all. He was using a local band to back him and just showed up with nothing but himself. My buddy had to go get his 345 to loan him.
I doubt it would be much better up here than it is down there. Probably stuck in a museum or aging out somewhere else behind glass. I don’t mind Chuck doing what he did, he probably gave up a lot of guitars when he passed, why not keep one.
A highschool friend who died far too young was buried with his early 80's Washburn A20V.
