Well all time is really no good because they will continue releasing them. But if we look back to the beginning and rate them. Which would have been your favourite. For me, I think XP was the most user friendly version they ever released. I have been using 8 now for months and I can get around, but it's not my favourite for sure.

3.1 for work groups had it all, I should go back to it

Win95 is my most hated version ever. I hated it so much I tried to go Linux but in the mid 90's Linux support was pretty much zero. Linux kicked my a$$ and sent me home crying. Then it was Windows ME. I used that right up until I got XP. Hung onto XP right up until Windows 8 was released. I took a chance and upgraded. I find a like a few of the little perks Win8 has.....but overall, XP was my favorite. A good, solid, no BS operating system.

I used XP on as many as 5 computers in a home network for many years. 2/3 kids are moved out now, and daughter has her own laptop instead of a tower, so we're down to a couple. Both have 7 on them and I like it very much also. But I knew how to tweak XP extensively and it ran rock solid and fast, so I'd rate it as my favourite.

I liked XP too. I still have a copy of 3.0 on a stack of diskettes. That's 3.0, NOT 3.1. For me, the Windows Write applet that started with 3.0 was the best word processor ever. No bells and/or whistles to distract, clean interface. The kind of word processor for a guy who wants a beer, a sandwich, and some fries on the side, with no fancy crap.

I thought Windows 95 was the greatest leap forward with a reasonably stable platform. XP was the next usable platform to be released. Everything in between was a dog. 7 is okay; I haven't used 8 much, but I'm not loving it yet.

somewhere I've still got a copy of Office 3.1 on 12 or 14 diskettes. Probably right beside a copy of "Doom" also on diskettes :Smiley-fart:

Nah. Somebody has to remember there was a time before 2000. I've got a whole museum in my basement and garage. A couple of Sinclair machines (ZX-81, Timex 1000, and Spectrum 2068), a couple of Macs (Classic and 575), a couple of CoCos (2 and 3), 286, 386, 486 machines. 10meg hard-drives. BIG 180k single-sided 5-1/4" floppy drives (from when floppies actually were), and my beloved Acorn Atom. I'm just sorry I don't have one of the 6502-based classic single board machines, like a Sym-1, AIM-65, or a KIM-1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIM-1).

Windows XP. Win 7 a close second. Win 95 only took a couple years at most to become fully corrupt to the point where my computer wouldn't work - it wasn't called Doze 95 for nothing. I vaguely remember some minor complaints about 3.1 but that was so long ago.

In order for me, my fave versions are:

Windows 7
Windows XP
Windows 95B
Windows 2000 Server

These were the least buggy versions of Windows and all ran with great stability. My Server box running 2000 had uptimes of over 100 days regularly without needing a reboot. Try that with another MS product! 95B was such a huge improvement over 95, which itself was ok. They totally shat the bed putting out Win 98 and Win ME, but redeemed themselves with XP. Win 7 takes the cake for my because it has all the things that made XP so reliable and easy to use and just improved on it without adding clutter. Networking, in particular, is where Win 7 shines for me.

Windows 8 can just go away and die for all I care.

XP will likely be the most common answer, and I'll agree.

I am currently using 8, and once I learned a few keyboard shortcuts, I find it very easy to use. It's be reliable and stable. I'm quite liking it. But I'm not sure anything will have the longetivity that XP saw.

my vote goes to Windows 7 64 bit system....have it/love it/ and pretty stable.

I still have a box that runs windows 95 AND windows NT as a twin boot...
I bet that with the modern memory configurations, that system would be pretty cool.

I'm saving one filing cabinet drawer full of 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 inch disks to trade for a nice LEs PAul HIstoric or similar guitar.
Any takers?

I loved WINNT 3.1 in '93 as the first 32-bit version. Then they came out with the 64-bit version of server in 2003... but realistically, as a user, win7 is my favourite Windows O/S for now. I tried win8 but not 8.1 yet. I'm a developer and like to keep *fairly* current :)

Ran ME for a few years on a comp that my dad gave to me, it was crap. Built a new one had ran xp on it for a long time. I loved xp but went to 7 last year when my hard drive died. I have no complaints about 7 and I think I may like it better than xp now.
