Wondering about basic wah pedals by Vox and Dunlop - Vox V845/V847 or Cry Baby/Cry Baby Classic. All well under $100 Cdn. Also the Dunlop Hendrix Signature - worth the extra $40 or so ??

Anybody with experience here? Thanks.

I've had a Cry Baby Classic (GCB-95) for a lot of years. I also have a Vox volume pedal. The Cry Baby is pretty much what they've always been; simple, built well. I don't use it anymore and in fact am going to sell it if you're interested. I prefer the filter effects in the G-System. It's hard to get the G-System to sound like a Cry Baby but it I like the ease and flexibility and don't want another pedal cluttering things up. I mention the volume pedal (V850) because of the case. It appears to me that both companies are or were buying their cases from the same place. Very well built. The Vox pedal has a shorter throw then what I like in a volume pedal but I understand that is because when coupled with certain Vox amps it works differently and I don't think would be a reflection of what to expect from their wah.

I tested out all the basic Wahs (pretty much all the Dunlops, the Vox, the Bad Horsey and the Beringer) pretty extensively a couple years ago before settling on the SW-95.

I liked the tone and sweep of the Vox wah a little better than the Classic Cry Baby. I didn't really care for the Fuzz on the Hendrix wah, but I think that was because it doesn't fit into my playing style and not because of a quality issue.

I'm currently using a Crybaby 95Q. It's got a build in Q sweep pot and a 15db boost switch. I picked it up used for $50, so it was a no-brainer. It's actually the first wah I've enjoyed using. It's an auto-on spring-loaded wah, which may not be to some people's tastes, but I love it!
