I agree. I understand Squire and Epiphone were very tough. They wanted X amount purchased by the retailer and very tough on allowing mfr returns for unsold products. But it's up to the retailer manage their purchasing ultimately. When I went there and saw that they had a room dedicated to Suhr guitars - I told my wife - This is amazing but it won't last. You can't carry that kind of overhead and stay afloat for long

“The retail store will remain open for a few more weeks, with the exact closing date to be announced at a later time. Long & McQuade has purchased the building and plans to open a new location in the coming months to serve the Richmond Hill area”

Wonder if they'll keep the Plek machine.

Holy fuck.

I never had any complaints about them although I haven’t been there for quite a while now but the repair place was pretty good and would do work while you waited if you asked them when was best to come in that you need to done now. I would not feel confident leaving anything with L&M.

Lately though, it seems like pretty much everything on the website was not in stock but we can order it for you.

The have a B bender telecaster that I want but it’s way too fucking expensive; maybe they will have a big ass sale and I can grab it for next to nothing… lol

When does the sale start and end?

We will announce the start of the sale next week (during the week of March 17). The sale will continue until our retail store closes. The exact closing date will be announced at a later time, but our store will remain open for a few more weeks.

Are all items in the store on sale?

Yes, all items in the store will be on sale! This includes new, display, demo, used, and scratch and dent products. Discounts on instruments and gear will be clearly displayed. If you are unsure of the sale price, our retail store Cosmo team will be happy to assist you.

Is the sale available online as well?

No, the sale is not available online. Online ordering has been closed, and sale items will not be advertised or shown on our website. The deals can only be seen and purchased by visiting our retail store.

Probably some good deals to be had as it sounds like L&M bought the building only and they’ll have to be out by a certain date with all inventory gone.

Sad, but not unexpected. To me they seemed to be in decline since well before Covid. Started with small things: staff that seemed disinterested, if not disgruntled; things left out randomly or put away in the wrong spot - the last couple of times I was in, it looked like the last days of K-Mart.

Bought my first good acoustic at the Yonge Street location in 1981 - it was a great store for a lot of years and in the early days of the superstore era, it was my go-to music store.

Even though I cringe at the idea of L&M inching closer to a monopoly, I'm glad that someone is stepping in to serve the area.

A friend of mine was in the Markham long and McQuade maybe two months ago and he told me that they told him L&M was moving to Stouffville.
True story. L&M Markham is moving to Hoover Park Drive - should cut 10 minutes off my commute.

WOW, that sucks. They were definitely a strong alternative to L&M.

They always had something listed online that was interesting.

I had one bad experience, but I still thought of them as a retailer of last resort, I did buy a few things from them, and always looked through their site.

I've never been to their store, but I had plans to go if I ever made it to T.O. again, reading bus schedules and everything!

One of my Hagstrom H-II-BN basses was originally sold at Cosmo Music's original Richmond Hill store in 1971. I use to visit that store before they moved south to Yonge & 16th Ave.

When I bought the bass a few years ago I noticed the label on the back of the headstock and left it on. It's still there today. I don't ever plan to remove it.

Thx Cosmo, so sorry to hear that you've decided to close.

I have that same sticker on the back of a 1976 Traynor YSC-8, 6x8 column, lol

I'm not surprised. I couldn't get anywhere with them for online sales. It was just hopeless. They had some nice stock, I just couldn't get them to communicate. Sad they won't have the sale online. Less options is never a good thing. L&M isn't my style of place to get good gear. I would never buy high end gear from L&M without seeing it.

Need to decide if I’m going to sell off a couple of guitars In the next week or two and take a run at the B bender. Then, it will be when to strike as they will likely become more flexible in negotiations as they get closer to the actual closing date. Then, there is the risk that some fucker might scoop that guitar while I’m waiting for a better price. These first world problems gonna be the death of me…lol

Solo Music is good but they do not have a huge inventory. However, they are very good for basic stuff, and also parts etc. Nice people to deal with in my experience and they are near where I work I’m in there to buy strings and such.

Gonna be sad to see them close...while their service wasn't the best they did carry brands that L&M doesn't carry...

And I guess L&M found their new Markham location. When the reps the current L&M Markham location told me about the Stouffville move they also said head office was looking for a new Markham location site - I think they originally were thinking somewhere in the Hwy 7 and 404 area but I guess now it will be a Richmond Hill location.

Yeah, L&M Bloor is about a 15 minute drive from where live if there was no traffic. But going there is such a shit show with traffic congestion due to bike lanes, cafe in the gutter and addicts shittin in the streets that it is easier to get on the highway and drive to Cosmo. Thought about going to LM Bloor today to check out a Bassman Tone Master but to hell with them.
