12- string Ibanez guitar tuning pegs almost stuck

Hi everyone.

Got a problem here:
the tuning pegs on my old (1973) Ibanez 12-string guitar have become so tough to turn that I can hardly tune it. Well, I did finally tune it

So, tough-to-turn pegs and I mean ... TOUGH! as in "almost stuck".

Possible cause: guitar in a (soft) case for long periods (months) at various temperatures and humidity levels.

Strings have been changed last year and hardly played with.

I have read many posts on Google and plenty of videos but nothing "definite"and/or truly useful.

If anyone has suggestions before I bring the guitar to the "luthier", please let me know.

Cheers! (and thanks)

Any old light oil like 3in1. Put it on the gears and turning points then tune the string down a tone or so then up. That should serve and then apply some more just before the next time you change strings so it can really work in. There's no need to disassemble it. If you apply too much dab it off with some toilet paper. My dobro had similar open tuners. I'd lube them with whatever was at hand. They're 51 years old and still going strong.

Once you have it oiled, play it a bit more often. :)
