I have and use this pedal for playing at home, jamming, and gigging (not that either of those last two ever happens much any more, but I digress). It's a simple and effective solution for sweetening up live vocals quite nicely.

The pedal has a built-in auto-gain function they describe like this:
"Mic Mechanic 2 will automatically adjust the gain setting for your microphone, eliminating the need for manual adjustments and ensuring that a good signal is passed to the mixer without any unwanted distortion."

My voice has a lot of annoying frequency resonances/peaks that makes it very tough to mic and eq, even in the most favourable settings. Every once in a while, with a particularly piercing loud note, there's a digital distortion coming through that sounds absolutely awful. I can't figure out how to dial it out, and I haven't found a solution online. It isn't peaking my mixer, so I'm pretty sure it is coming from inside the pedal. However, with no ability to reduce input gain on the pedal, I'm not really sure how to proceed.

Anyone know anything about these pedals? Is there a hidden input gain feature that isn't in their documentation?

If you're unfamiliar with the pedal, here's a quick demo (not from me):
