Sometimes lurker, first time poster.
How do folks around here value guitars when they are selling/trading - at least ones that are not super common and can’t easily be purchased new or often pop up on the used market.
I often look at other online listings from reputable guitar shops in Cda and the US, or the latest sales transactions on Reverb, and go from there. Obviously list prices are not necessarily what items go for, but Reverb transaction histories are. And I’ve heard mixed things about the annual vintage guitar price guide, if a model is even old enough to be covered by it.
However, any time I do this on a higher end guitar, I immediately get harassed and told I’m insane. I’ve even been the subject of a thread or two on this forum!
Though I realize some of that comes with online postings, especially on Kijiji regardless of the price. But I’m truly not out to gouge people and am simply trying to reflect the latest market value.
So, what do folks use to price less common, higher end guitars?
