Blend controls really ought to show up more often than they do. I have a clone of the Maestro FZ-1S which has a "balance" control that adjusts clean/dirty blend (had an original but I loaned it out and it never returned so I had to build one). One tended not to see such controls much until the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, years later, that allowed for blending of the overdriven and clean tone. I suppose studios implemented it as a sort of post-production tweak. That is, run a clean line out to the board with a DI, but also feed a mic'd amp via a fuzz, and then mix the two at the board. But, like so many other effects these days, what used to be post-production now comes in pedal form.

I believe that to implement a proper blend control, with an analog device involves extra active circuitry that pedal manufacturers may not be willing to incorporate. On the flip-side digital circuitry is more accommodating and typically involves mainly software and or firmware updates.
