I'm only listening to this on my laptop speakers, so not great... but what comes across really clearly to me in this comparison is how percussive the Marshall is. The Fender tends to sag more. That could be a lot of things though (particular models, tube health, biasing, etc.) and not necessarily a blanket statement to be made about Marshall vs Fender.

Actually I think this is a great place to begin when describing the differences - which I'd say start with the 6V6 vs EL34 tubes. The circuits obviously create a difference, but a JTM being closer to Fender than a JMP will still have those stiffer qualities.

My favorite rock and metal tones are definitely Marshall.

Over the past little while I've been experimenting with a cranked and boosted kind of sound with a model of the Deluxe reverb, though.

Even without a fuzz pedal in the chain it seems to get into a darker "fuzzier" tone. Just by hitting the front end hard with an OD and having the volume up very high. I guess that could be the sag. Its almost more of a feel thing than the sound itself.

Its definitely a different kind of higher gain sound than I'm used to, but I really like it and it's already kicked off a couple ideas for riffs based on how thick and woolly it is compared to the thunk of the Marshall. Made me play in a way that I probably wouldn't have with my standard Marshall high gain tone.
