Greetings, I'm on the prowl for a CS Strat. Exactly what remains to be seen. There's a few things I have in mind. I want it to be a nod to vintage. That obviously covers a number of years. I'd like it to have an ash body if possible, three colour sunburst, quarter sawn/rift sawn neck, nitro finish, vintage tuners. The PUs will depend on the year. I'm leaning towards 57-64 reissues. NOS type of finish, not relic'd.
I recently saw a nice 1960 Closet Classic for sale on FB Market Place. It was up there for a long time. I didn't feel like making the 2 hour drive, in spite of the price being good. I believe it had an alder body. And, it was quite new. Alas, I was asleep at the switch and before I knew it, it was snatched up.
I recently checked out a new '55 at Long & McQuade. I was not impressed, not for that amount of money ($6100).
I think used is the way to go. The image I've uploaded is only for general purpose, but that is a '60 Closet Classic, all be it from 2000. I'd prefer something much newer. I'm also not interested in "signature" guitars, as in SRV, Clapton, Gallagher, "Virginia", etc.
