Hello everyone!

In the next 6 months or so, I'm looking at picking up another dual humbucker based axe and would like to drop either P-rails or phat cats in it.. just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these pickups? let me know what you think and what type of guitar they would be best suited for... i would like something to play slide and for alternate tunings..

I'm also contemplating an SG Classic if I happen to stumble onto one at a good price ... then that would completely nullify the question above.. but you never know! Has anyone had experience with the Gibson SG Classics?

Thanks in advance!

No experiance with SG classics but what i can tell you is that a lot of people that like P-90's also speak highly of the phat cats, I personally like them. the only thing is the versatility isn't there as they are just a single coil. the P-rails can give you the option for strat tone or p-90 plus a bucker. So if I was choosing between the two I would probably pick the p-rails due to the versatility.

I've always wondered just how humbucker like the P-Rails can get though. I've never heard them in person, but on youtube they sound close. But just close, not exactly like one.
There is a host of effects and amp settings that you can play with to get them to sound the way you want.

He also says hes looking to play slide and alternate tunings so having a pickup that is a little different could prove to be a good thing. It's all personal preference so I say find somewhere to try them out and see what you like.

I got a P-Rail to put in the neck of my Les Paul copy. (I'm not afan of P-90's in the bridge position--at least if I'm the one playing the guitar, so I got a JB real cheap for the bridge.)

I considered the Phat Cat, but went with the P-Rail for the versatility.

Unfortunately I'm going to be quite busy in the near future, and I'm not sure when I'll get the new pickups in--when I do I will be posting about them, but right now that looks like it won't be as soon as I'd hoped. I still have some of the smaller parts to get.
