Godin day : Godin 5th Avenue and Seagull Performer. :)

I had to change the tuning machines on the 5th Avenue last year because the one the third string was winding on had given. The little dead machine had been lying on my desk for a year and I just cut the tiny case with my metal saw yesterday : The was enough grease in it but the cogwheel which is made of brass has tiny dents that were used to the point their edge folded to that they had lost contact with its counterpart. Fortunately, Godin had mad a mistake and sent three full sets (and did not wish me to pay or return the extra sets). I fell I will have to replace those on the Seagull soon…

I ordered some machine heads from the Godin site last year because the Seagull S6+ folk that I picked up for $100 had a single funky machine. The new ones look and feel great even if they're not period correct, and dealing with Godin was easy and fast. Super little guitar, too. Played it, a House, and a Beneteau today, plus the Telecaster posted over on that other what guitar did you play today thread.

Same guitars as yesterday, but for a short while since I was actually not in the mood (for no particular reason) :(
Same guitars… but for a good moment today ! :)
Santa Cruz OM Custom - I haven't played it in a year and strings haven't been changed in 18 months. sounds great in the room.

Sigma DR28V. Sitka over EIR laminate. V neck with 1&3/4 nut. Good action and intonates well. Has a K&K pickup as well as a D’Armond magnetic in the sound hole. Each pickup has its own jack so you can run them both at once into different amps. The guitar cost me 650 new, the K&K about 140 and the D Armond about 120; so not much into it and I installed the pickups myself.

Thinking about doing some open mics so dragged this one out tonight and playing it through the D’Armond pickup into a 57 custom deluxe.

If this was the only acoustic guitar that I had I really couldn’t complain but I would anyway.

Two so different beasts, but not back to back : Martin OODB and Huss&Dalton Crossroads. They made me realize how bassy is the OODB while its highs do sound clear. :)
Sort of in a jug band mood, steel string, hi-hat cymbals & tambourine, kazoo.

Besides the usual steel string guitars, the Kala baritone uke and Outdoor Ukulele uke were out.

Gibson L-OO and Martin OOO-18… ;)
Alas, have dupuytren contracture in my ring finger and don't think I can proceed past about bar 30 on fur alise on my cordoba, so tomorrow will start working on some other Carulli songs. (can't physically play some willy brown songs either).

Just about have John Hurt's I'm satisfied down on the martin and have been playing she talks to angels on the old beat to crap ovation and am eying up my tanglewood 12 string, trying to gain the courage to attempt Andy Gunn's Misery Blues.
Don't expect to get it but hope to learn a Ton of cool licks by trying.

The attempt is the struggle is the fun, eh?

Same as yesterday… for a short while only… :(
Had the bride assist me with a couple of listening comparison tests. For a somewhat disinterested music listener she's got good ears. To that end we compared the all mahogany S&P folk, a Seagull cedar top, two spruce top Houses, and a spruce top baritone Beneteau for tone, volume, and sustain. We didn't really rank them because they're not strung or tuned the same, never mind the wood differences. We just compared them, though if we were to rank them the S&P would not be at the bottom. Huge bang for the buck.

Other opposite spectrum day but on the cheap side : Alvarez AP66ESB & Eastman AC122ce.
Interesting how the all-Mahogany parlor sounds mellower than the larger spectrum of the Eastman. :)
Gold Tone short scale Irish tenor banjo. Prepping An Dro tunes.

Same as yesterday BUT outside the music room, say in our huge open space (the wife was out for a moment…) playing the same Medieval and Irish/Celtic pieces. :)
