The title says it all, really.

I know that several members of the forum have Dillions, and given that there are no dealers in Canada who carry Dillions, I am curious about where you found yours, as I have GAS for the Dillion DRT-69 A 'Rosie', mainly because I want a T-style guitar, and because I am a massive George Harrison fan, and this guitar gets close to the look.

I was in email contact with John Dillion, and he pointed me in the direction of someone in the U.S. who has some, but with the appalling exchange rate at the moment, and because I would rather not take the chance of getting potentially dinged with a hefty duty (which seems to be hit-or-miss, but is possible), I would rather find one here in Canada, and preferably in T.O..

Thanks for any help that anyone can give me.

Geert, I saw this on Ebay Canada:

Dillion Rosewood Tele - Right hand - NO ONE makes them better !! | eBay

The price is $643.20 Canadian and shipping is $169.39 Canadian so your total would be $812.59 which probably doesn't include a case but if you're interested you can ask the seller.

If you're just looking for the 'look', there's a Harley Benton on kijiji for $290 in Guelph. That's basically brand new price plus ship/duty.
You can probably talk him down by showing him the Thomann link.
The differences that I read between that and a Dillion is basswood vs alder bodies. Dillion has stained necks.
I know that you checked into these before from a previous thread.
Depending on your budget, get the HB and add your own stained neck, upgrade parts?

Post WTB ads here, kijiji, craigs list etc.

So when the guy who says specifically "I would like to find a Dillion DRT-69", you think he's just making it up? Why would you question someone who clearly has done his research?
You are exceptionally good at being stupid.

OP, the rosie I was talking about is no longer available.

Dillion are not a common guitar in Canada, and I would be willing to bet the specific model isn't still in production.

You may be better served with a rosewood parts build, as suggested earlier.

I love Dillion guitars.
I bought one of their '61 SG copy guitars several years back.
I bought it at a music store at the Seaway mall that has since closed up shop unfortunately.
Don't tell my wife as she just bought me a $1500 Les Paul recently but my Dillion is my favorite guitar.
Looks good, plays Great, nothing not.to like ( other than the cheap electronics, but that's an easy fix)
Pic for attention:
Good luck in your search!

Ps: VSN guitars online used to sell them. They are based I believe in Niagara Falls Ontario. Might pay to shoot them an email?

Hi laristotle,
Many thanks for this.

For some reason, I have a little more faith in the Dillion than I do in the Harley Benton.

As you noted, I had asked about the Harley Bentons in a previous thread, and I had been in touch with Thomann, but in the end I decided that the cost of import could potentially be hugely more expensive than I wanted to pay, and, despite the eventuality of that existing with importing the Dillion from the U.S., I feel better about going the latter route.

I have just remembered, also, that the H.B. 'Rosie' is less like the George Harrison Fender Tele (cosmetically) than the Dillion seems to be.

Regarding posting WTB ads in the usual places, I thought that looking for what I wanted was a better way to go than responding to and wading through responses which would almost certainly contain examples of things close to what I wanted but not exactly what I wanted.

Regarding the look of the guitar,I had been thinking about getting a Tele anyway, so the sound is as important as the look, for me, and that is one of the reasons why I wanted to know whether the H.B. and the Dillion will accept standard Fender parts without me having to drill holes and so on.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me that the Dillion purchase goes well.

Thanks again,

Geert.

Was there not a Tokai rosie on kijiji recently?

Any reason why you want dillion specifically?
Thanks for your reply, Budda.

I have been keeping an eye on Kijiji, and did not notice a Tokai 'Rosie', but will now look again.

Thanks.

Thanks very much, mechanic.

More people seem to like Dillions than many other makes of the cheaper copies. So it is reassuring for me to hear your voice join that chorus.
