hello I am a newbie but need help
Which would be a better guitar?
Their both considered strident guitars ,I know -
I have one guy trying to sell me his washburn for 150 - but another who has a Stratocaster with an peavey amp and guitar stand for 100
Okay price the 100 is the best but I’m considering the guitar factors only

Hi Simone,

It sounds like your new to the buying and selling of guitars. I would suggest you
Not buy used if you can avoid. Buying used is often a great way to save money...however without really knowing what to look for it’s just as often an opportunity to lose money. Bad necks, shoddy electronics and fake guitars are everywhere.

My advice would be to visit a local music store and find someone you can do business with. There are starter kits everywhere for ~$200 that will be reputable builds that come with a warranty.

Just my two cents. Welcome to the forum and best of luck searching for your new instrument.

I agree, most of the sub 200 dollar guitars on Kijiji are garbage. I think it is the reason so many people are selling them. They buy a cheap piece of junk and it sounds horrible, they stop playing and then they try to sell it for more than they paid for it

Squiers are generally decent guitars. If you have someone who plays and can go with you, you can do very well in the used market. As others have said, since you are new and lack experience, new may be the best way to go. If you want some suggestions and give us your budget, the members here will be able to give you some good suggestions. Then you can pick what you like among them.

If that is your picture in your avatar, you don't look like a large person so I would guess you have smaller hands. If this is true, you should start with a guitar with a narrow and probable thin neck which will make fretting easier for you.

Most that I know live in Toronto-I’ll see if I can find someone closer to come with me-yes that’s me -and I’m not a large person -that’s correct
Any suggestions on guitars that have narrow necks ?

It does.
For a beginner, which I assume that you are, this is a good value.
Yes I played the piano because I had no choice with my parents since I was four but always wanted to play the guitar !! so I’m going for it -guess for 100 I wouldn’t loose anything

Simone: Id that is a Squier with that amp, I would go for it if it is in decent condition.. I believe that neck is 1 5/8" which is way too small for me but likely right up your alley.

The Squier combo is probably whats is called a Strat Pack(lots of Google results if you search it). It comes in a box and contains a Squier Affinity guitar, and some type of amp(sometimes Fender/Peavey etc.), sometimes chords, stands etc. They come up on CL in Vancouver a lot.

Good luck.

Just so that you're aware, the Lyon, made by Washburn, is an entry level guitar.
Same as the Squier, made by Fender, as Rozz stated above.
You're still better off with that Squier deal.
