Hi guys

Long story short, guy comes to my place with a guitar that he's supposed to trade me
Guitar is: Gibson Les Paul G0 (Guitar Center Limited Edition version of R0)

Now, most of the guitar appeared OK
- Got the Custom Shop case
- Got the COA with all the tags / candy
- Got the R0 stamp in the control cavity

BUT

A lot of other stuff are really weird, especially:
- No fret nibs (frets go over the binding)
- Weird "Kluson Deluxe" tuners (they usually say Gibson Deluxe on these AFAIK)

See pics to see what I'm talking about
I can also upload more pics if that would help tell if it's Genuine

Thanks!

Was there a refret done during it's life?
Doing that and keeping the nibs is quite expensive compared to
getting rid of the nibs and installing the frets that are there now.

That's what I asked him, he said he doubted it was ever refretted

I feel dumb for not checking the truss rod

Right, it should have nibs unless it's a refret.

Also pretty sure tuners should be Gibson, be double ring and with the stamped housing, so they may have been changed...

i don't remember which models, but i know in the past several years, gibson has made some bound neck guitars w/o nibs.
Indeed, on 2014 models mostly
But this one is supposed to be a 2009
I also don't think they'd omit nibs on a Reissue model

This. Send them pics. I've done that before and they were quite quick with a response.
I shall do that

There were other things that were off too:
- Nut looked off, was either bone or plastic
- Tune-O-Matic was locking (surely not original)
- Pots were wrong (black plastic square base, never seen those before)
- Caps weren't Bumblebees (even though it had the Bumblebee hang tag)
- Switch tip was cream and not amber
- Pickup rings were too dark in color

For me, the biggest concern would be the lack of nibs with no clear indication of a refret. At worst, it's a fake and at best there appear to be numerous undocumented mods. Personally, I'd be too suspect to move forward.

Final question regards what you'd be trading for it. If it seems like a too-sweet-to-pass-up kinda deal, there may be a good reason for that...

Oh yeah I did pass on it

And IMO I was already giving the guy too much value for it in the first place, more than 3K$
