looked at a Traynor XM 50 C at L&M the other day.
1 10" speaker, combo ss, 50w
list is around $350.00 cdn
they claim would be louder if miked.

has anyone tried or owned one.
sure would appreciate your comments.

Have never played that particular combo, but Traynor/Yorkville is great product.

50W is not really much for bass. You'll be pushing pretty hard and/or maxing out if you play with a drummer and guitar stacks. Great size for practicing at home or if you play in an acoustic setting though.

I agree with JoB that the XM50 is best suited for use as a practice amp. If you were to use it live it does have an XLR out (so you would run it right into the PA rather than mic it) but you may still have trouble hearing yourself.

You should be able to pick up a larger used yorkville for less than that - either an XM series or the Bassmaster 200/200T. I wouldn't be too concerned buying a used amp - yorkvilles are pretty much indestructable.

Be sure you go and try some different amps/speakers - you may find that one or two 10" speakers aren't your thing and your tastes are better suited to a 15" (or 12s ... or 18s ...)

I know that model. I checked out the 50, 100 and 200 Watt models several years ago, back when the carpet on them was blue. I went with the 200 Watt amp at the time and in order to get a deeper bottom end had to get the 15" extension cab too. Many years later, I picked up the 100 Watt version with tough black covering, for home practice use only. For band use, anything under 200 Watts won't cut it with a drummer.
That's my honest assessment. I've owned tube and solid state Traynor/Yorkville stuff for, ahem, decades <feeling very old>.

I don't know what has really changed, but I've played one of the blue covered 200W combos with a band, and while it had plenty of headroom, I found the sound to be bland. The newer black tolex covered XM100 & 200 W combos sound great!

I personally, would spring for a (newer /slightly used) 2x10 combo, and add another 2x10 (or 1x15, 1x12) to it down the road.

I tried it at L&M a few some time last year. In my opinion, it's too little for the price. As a practice amp, I think you can find lower wattage, less expensive amps that would do just fine. Definitely not enough there for jamming.

not mine. I blew the tweeter in it, and yorkville has 56 on back order from their supplier. I put in the order at L&M for a new one before xmas, I don't expect to get it any time soon.

Picked up the XM100 today and also tried the 50, for the extra $100 you get a much better amp IMHO.

Plugged into the 5 string the amp sounded ok but in the shop I had it at half volume already. The 100 really made the extra string come alive, the 15 inch driver really works well, this was with the volume at around 2.
With both amps I found they really respond to the pick attack, you get a nicer tone just by hitting them harder.

As the guys said to me.......Go as big as you can afford.
