So why would anyone wear short socks? Long socks pulled up high will offer the best tick protection a sock can give. The fashion statement is a bonus.

SSSSSSSexxx-say!!!

My son bought me this set - TeeHee Novelty Cotton Fun Crew Socks 2-Pack for Men (Guitar Rock and Roll Music): Amazon.ca: Clothing & Accessories. They come up almost as high as those in the picture, but the guitar theme is what leverages them into hipness.
Ok--I don't wear my socks as high as in the pictures--but I've been told they are too high
I don't get the anti-sock crowd.
If you want to go sockless or wear those socks that don't even go up to your ankles (Or the ones that go just over them)--then go for it.
And leave my sock choices alone--I find it comfortable and your choices are not comfortable to me.
(Although hanging around at home--especially when the weather's nice--I do spend a lot of time sockless)

You know who else likes long socks? Isis. You wanna be like Isis? Go ahead.

ISIS doesn't wear shorts like that though...
I like knee high socks over sweat pants under my hip and chest waders but nowhere else...ever. Not sure I even have a pair for that anymore. I associate knee socks with my parents' generation, and catholic school girls (disclaimer, my wife was a catholic school girl when we started dating).

This pair of socks for some reason don't seem to bother me, plus they give maximum tick protection:

Just by you saying this you are now on a list and can expect to be disappeared.
I've got one pair of socks that goes to my knees. Special socks for winter riding - and I need them when it's below 8 C or so. I hate cold legs and feet.

With the exception of riding, I go all summer (4 or 5 months) without wearing any socks, just sandals. I'm glad weddings and funerals are more casual than they were a couple of decades ago. Or maybe I just don't care as much.

What are you riding? (horses?)

this thread proves that most men should let their women do their clothes shopping for them.

I can say I rarely give any thought to dressing for tick protection. Esp if I'm wearing a jacket and tie as the chaps above are. What a ridiculous way to dress....you'll be steaming hot above the waist due to the shirt, probably undershirt, and thick jacket, all cinched up at the neck by a tie, unbreathable leather shoes etc but gosh your kneecaps will feel so breezy and cool.

Well, there are minimally compressive socks just under the knee. I used to use them while sitting or standing day long... but under long pants ! I heard long socks under the knee with bermuda short was the rule on some golf courses... as on the photo on front of The Bermuda Bank I guess. I once incidentally had to wear such an attire : I got many eyes staring at me on the course...
Nice bike.
Thanks.

Sadly, those tires aren't well suited to our current conditions. Every corner an adventure.*#*(
Is that a hybrid bike? I have one as well and love it. never understood the fad of poseur mountain bikes with shocks, knobby tires etc for urban people who never go offroad. yet thats all you ever see around the GTA. horses for courses.
