A lot of older couples would have broken up if it wasn't for the stigma that used to be attached to divorce. The shame factor has been greatly reduced.

Also, people are getting married at an older age and have gotten a greater taste of independance and freedom before they tie the knot, which they miss after.

Most importantly, women don't need men to survive anymore!
