It took me some time to figure NOS (clarified previously as New Old Stock) and (not yet in the thread) AVRI= American Vintage Re-Issue.

Surprisingly also not mentioned is "PAF". Took me FOREVER to finally dig this one out. Saw it everywhere, and even came up with zeros on a Google search for years. It is Patent Applied For. Which at first, does not help in relation to a guitar pickup, but it refers to the early Humbucker sounds. Usually (but not limited to) Seth Lover (a guy, not a lover of Seth) who worked at Gibson in the mid 50's.

GAS actually stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome (much more all encompassing).

Guitarists just adopted it out of convenience.
Certainly is more encompassing, as it would include amps and pedals.

Certainly a term I know from large format photography (larger than 4"x5" film)...

The little cameras are just the gateway drugs to get us to get started for those with the bigger cameras.

In the large format world, my GAS includes 4x5, 8x10, and 8x20, plus the necessary lenses, film holders and other bits...
