Thanks guys,

I was also wondering though, without actually going out to a store and trying them all out, where could I find out what's the approximate sound of the different categories of pedals?

I mean, "distortion", "overdrive", "reverb", are pretty obvious, but I don't have much idea of what to "expect" from say a "flanger", "tremolo", "compressor", "delay", etc.

Is there anywhere where I could hear some samples online, or is the best way just to go out and try them all?

Scooped mids

I know it's next to impossible to "describe" a sound - but what are "scooped mids"?
As I've understood it, it basically is the sound that results from dialing the midrange right down and cranking the bass and treble. Often highly distorted as heard in modern metal tunes. Think of a graphic eq with the mid range sliders dropped down or "scooped" in the visual sense.

I keep seeing references to plexi (amps) but have no idea what it refers to.
appreciate an explanation
cheers.
The name refers to a specific line of Marshall amps, specifically early ones that had a plexiglass panel on the front.
This wiki article will give you more info. Check it out...

Long Suffered Malady Known As G.A.S

I have suffered from GAS so long I decided to open a music store to meet my addiction! Occasionally I have to let one of the girls go to a nice new home where hopefully someone else is developing the same syndrome and a healthy appetite for more guitars! LOL! Cue "EVIL LAUGHTER" MUA ha ha ha!largetongue

This may be a silly question.................but what exactly is "bumping" a thread? I've seen it referred to in the gear for sale/trade posts but haven't figured it out. Help. :confused-smiley-010
Bumping a thread means posting in it with the intention of moving it or "bumping" it to the top of the first page.

It's helpful if you're trying to sell something or just keep a thread visible.

Just smth that I'm not sure about... when people say that a cab or a speaker has a lot of "bottom end" or smth similar, do they mean it has a lot of bass/low frequency sound to it, or...?
Yes...you are correct.... it means that it has has good low frequency response.
