Need to pick some brains...

Rookie Questions:

What does "GAS" mean? I see it in a lot of threads usually pertaining to a desired purchase or something to that effect? Is it an acronym for something? Or does it literally mean GAS, as in fuel or something nasty building up in the intestines?

Also,

What does the R9, R8, etc. mean when used to describe a Gibson Les Paul?

Please clarify...Thanks:food-smiley-004:

GAS stands for Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. Can't help you with the Les Paul stuff, tho'..... I'm strictly an acoustic girl

Thanks! Does the "R" mean re-issue? And if so, is the Historic Line sort of like a custom shop? Can I get one made? Or were they limited release items? Thanks!

Historic Reissue and yes it's custom shop. It's a fixed line and I think you can get them to make stuff, but you'd need to sell drugs to be able to afford it.

I'm in no rush for the antidote!!!

My wife suffers from:

E.P.A.S. (Expensive Purse Acquisition Syndrome) and
T.M.B.S.S. (Too Many Bloody Shoes Syndrome)

So, we call it even!

I think Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a more apt definition. While basses are definitely a part of it, GAS really hits me with amps &/or cabs.

This is a variation of M.A.D.N.E.S.S, or Mandolin-Acquiring Disorder Numbing Every Semblance of Sensibility, due to the frightening prices that some handmade F5's have attained.

I have to restrict myself to salivating uncontrollably when encountering yet another plum at Elderly Instruments, the 12th Fret or Janet Davis Music.

Eek.
