I probably listened to John Prine more than any other artist when I was growing up. This one always reminds me of my cousin Bobby, who we lost much too young to cancer. One of the last happy memories I have of him is a party my mother threw for him at our house when he bought his 30 fibreglass fishing boat. It's summed up perfectly by the opening lines (although the connection obviously ends there once the war references kick in).

"Robert was a sailor for the best years of his life. His captain was his mother and the ocean was his wife."

Sadly, since some drunken idiot grabbed and fell on my guitar at a bar gig I played, I have to keep the action a mile high to keep a clean sound, so playing the upper registers is misery, but the lead run in that song is so catchy it's as hard not to at least try it ;-).
