Is this the section where we post any clipz or works in progress? I like to make part of my guitar forum life is "puttin' it out there" even if my output is minimal and lacking polish. I have a long ways to go regarding learning how to record/mix, probably starting best with improving/refining my skills in writing, arrangement and performance. I am a helluva tambourine player though. I can totally tambo most guys into total submission, believe me, it's true. I'm such a crappy bass player it's embarrassing.

I love to listen to what other people do too, so this seems to be the right place on GC - So, here's something I've been picking away at over the past month, now that summer is over it's time to release it into the wild. Other than performance, the art and science of mixing is a mysteryland to me, slowly learning little things. So your helpful and learned ears/critique always welcome. I was going for an Oasis sort of thing to start, kind of veered off that path.

Posted this on another forum last night, one guy said too much swirly reverb, I get that, maybe some more eq cuts, low pass, suggested dropping some mid guitar in some parts - all valid points. When is piece ever finished?
All suggestions welcome. Reaper, MT powerdrums, P-90 DC knockoff, real tambo, none of that virtual tambo, too lifeless HNG^%$

EXCELLENT!! Congrats!

I heard some old '70's sounds in there...??
Just can't think of the bands that it reminds me of.

Very creative and thought provoking lyrics.

Looking forward to more of your recordings.

Cheers

I love the retro guitars. You got it right down, buddy.

I gotta figure out how to get my own stuff up here. Thats where it's at -- posting actual music. Like you, I struggle with the technical side of it. Others are so good at it. I hate it, but gotta "get it out there" like you said.

Can't quite get ahold of the social bias in the lyrics: left? right? Explain...

Thanks D-man

like I said i was going for Oasis, but only a smnall part of the sneery vocals got that right... one guy on another place i posted this said it was reminiscent of Steppenwolf which to me a was a YUUUUUGE compliment - maybe the gritty vocals part - and I agree a little bit, has a tinge of 70's retro rock for sure.

Once you find you can lay down sound, and get drums, bass and create tracks, I think you are 50% there. The learning curve to there was steep one for me.
I was set up good about three years ago, then my DAW got fried by a lightning strike and got a new (old) computer but it was 64 bit, so my other software was incompatible, so then I had to buy an interface, and I was forever haunted by a little glitch that whenever I shut my computer down, I go back the next time and I had no input. It was so damn maddening. Then I realized I just had to reset the asio driver each time I started up new and things are better. But man I dealt with that nightmare for six months. Such an inspiration killer, sitting down to record something, then ..... fighting with inputs and getting nothing.

I recent found a set of youtube tutorials called 5 minutes to a better mix and it has been very helpful -check them out

Social bias? LOL! Sure, since social bias has now replaced what we used to call thought. Well I lean right bit I guess, but it was more a swipe at radicalism in general, probably more the deep left assault on free speech and the media (Left and right) joyfully playing it all up for thier own ends

Summer of Hate

Guns in the streets, fire in the skies
Friends turned enemies with blood in their eyes
radicals waving torches and pipes
There’s left theres right It seems wrong on all sides

Media knawing on bones of the beast,
They’re gonna explode They enjoyed such a feast
They’re eating our young, gnashing thier teeth
serving up poison, it's all we can eat

It’s the summer of hate
a deep chill goin round me
hot hot summer of hate
I ca'nt get lost now that It found me, yeah

DON'T SAY YOUR BUILDING MY FUTURE
bY TEARING DOWN YOUR PAST
FiRE FIGHTS FIRE, HATE breeds HATE
lET'S ALL BUILD US A POLICE STATE

A Witch-hunt in the name of love,
Paved with good intentions
SUMMER ALWAYS SEEMED SO SHORT...
NOW IT'S NEVER-ENDING

Well freedom ain't freedom no more
WHEN THE THOUGHT POLICE KNOCK DOWN YOUR DOOR
in each DARKEST MOMENT OF HISTORY
THEY WERE CONVINCED THEY WERE DOIN' THE RIGHT THING...

It’s the summer of hate
AND IT JUST WONT GET AROUND ME
IT's A summer of hate
I can't get lost now that It found me

outro
WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS BLISS

I can't hear it!

Do I have to download the SoundCloud app on my phone?
No I don't think so... sometimes there is a delay when I play forum embedded SoundCloud files on my i-phone - usually they do play if you click

That was just groovy! That was shades of the 70's for me personally. It had a great vibe going.

I was thinking of Neil Young when I heard the lyrics. A master of words that tell a story. That's what I heard.

I think you need to leave it alone! It's awesome just the way it is. I love the swirly reverb. It adds a groove to the music I don't often hear anymore. Great job!

There is some damn sweet stuff going on in this. Great work so far. I happen to be in a likewise position regarding recording, mixing, and finishing a polished product with the DAW I use (Sonar). A bit of a learning curve for me as I concentrate more on playing and performance than anything else. Keep up the great writing.
