back when I used to play a stop tail bridge (SG, and Les Paul style), i always had my stop tail lowered as low as it could possibly go, so that it made contact with the body. I've read in numerous places that this setup gives better resonance.. After I started doing that, I started having a problem with strings breaking at the bridge becuase of the angle from the stop bar, and the bridge. Doing the 'ol wrap around fixed that for me, and actually in my opinion made the guitar sound better, i'm assuming because there was more contact between the string and guitar.
