1) I've seen a few other Youtubes with the Billy Cardigan fellow. I don't know if he is actually that stupid or trying to be a sort of music-gear Nardwuar. He's no Sascha Baron-Cohen, that's for sure.
2) Those pedal shows can be exhausting. If you're not trying to have a yelling conversation above the din, you're forced to wear headphones so that you don't have to listen to somebody trying out yet one more noise pedal.
And quite frankly, there is an enormous amount of redundancy in the pedal world; 90% of it being distortions. I've been playing pedals for 50 years now. And believe me, after the first 5,000 distortions and fuzzes, they all start to sound the same.
