I like Lap Steel guitars for playing slide. The shorter scale changes the string tension, and how the instrument responds and sounds when played, I learned this from reading and interview with David Lindley.
The mini-strat has the same scale length as a lap steel.
I bought a mini-strat and changed the tuners, changed the pick ups neck p.u. Seymour Duncan strat size PAF used, middle pickup, Dimarzio Area 58 hum cancelling pickup, bridge pickup, Fast Track 1 hum canceling pickup.
I strung it up with 12's and presto-change oh ! just like magic huzza! a killer slide guitar
Thank You Squier for the well made mod plate form. I'm happy as a rattle snake crawlin' in the sun.

Interesting idea. I have a mini strat that I want to mod into a 8 string mandolin.
