...what is the point of announcing a songwriting contest LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE DEADLINE????

Presumably, if you are a songwriter you might have songs already written and therefore ready to submit. Unless you were sitting around waiting for a contest to come along so you could start writing a song for it. In that case, more than two weeks would be nice.

I'm kinda with jroberts though...
