I have a 56 gretsch duo jet with original s/coil dynosonics, made by d'armond.
fantistic pups , but hum was definately a problem.
solution---
removed the capacitors and installed BILL LAWRENCE tone cubes .
PROBLEM SOLVED

I hope this can help some of you guys that have hum problems.

And not only 'what are they' but will they work with P90s (I would assume so)

...which is described as "An LCR Network to reduce the impedance of pickups". in that sense, it could reduce hum, in the same way that emg pickups work: low impedance vs (normal) high impedance.

another advantage is that you can use an extra long guitar cable.

i wonder what the downsides are...

All I am able to find out, they are some kind of inductance coil.
I'm sure a quick note to BILL would give a more suitable explanation, as well as price and availability. I got mine 25 yrs. ago.
