Another longer obit for Scotty: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/28/arts/music/scotty-moore-hard-driving-guitarist-who-backed-elvis-presley-dies-at-84.html?hpw&rref=obituaries&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well&_r=0

As an inveterate reader of both Guitar Player and Vintage Guitar, I can't begin to count the number of times other guitarists named Moore as one of their major influences, during interviews.

You took the words out of my mouth. Scotty was a great guitarist.

RIP Scotty Moore

TBH, I wasn't much into Elvis or Scotty. Until I started playing rockabilly and learning a few old Presley songs. Scotty had some chops - especially considering in that era he was probably inventing some of them (or at least repurposing them from another genre). Decades later, it doesn't sound that groundbreaking but it probably was.
