This guy did the same to me, claimed he had all manner of strat necks: vintage, relics, maple, rosewood, but was clearly just pulling images off google. He was also super insistent about chatting through email and not the guitars Canada messaging board, so I decided to have a little fun with him.

Hey, I'll preface this to say I'm not labelling this person as a "scammer", but they've ghosted me since August so I thought I'd ask if anyone on the GC page knows a Michael Hofer from Kitchener Ontario? He runs Michael's Gear Emporium on Reverb: michael's Gear Emporium | Reverb

I sent him a $500 deposit (not through Reverb) on a guitar and after cancelling the deal he agreed to send back the money but ghosted me after that. I'm hoping it's an honest mistake, but its been about a month now and I've sent multiple messages and tried to call.

If anyone knows him, I'm asking for a favour to have him reach out to me. Thanks

I don't know Michael Hofer personally but I am located in Kitchener. I'm quite sure he was (recently) selling through Kijiji locally.

Thanks, yes he's selling on Kijiji too. I just messaged the listing and he replied but won't anymore as I revealed it was me...fun times.

I already have his name and email + physical address. I won’t post here but I’ve sent an email to him saying cops are the next step. I don’t know what legal grounds I have though.
He’s blocked my phone number.

It’s easier to blow someone off by blocking their phone number than it is when they show up at your home, face to face.

Well I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. After doing online transactions for decades I was scammed by someone on Kijiji. Sent payment for item and then all communication stopped. Should have known it was too good a deal. Have reported to all parties involved but I think I am SOL. User name was Jeff Hoffman with email [email protected]
Be careful out there. Lots of scumbags!
