The issue of Vintage Guitar that came in the mail today had an obit for him. He passed away just a few weeks ago, and was only 70. Apparently he was at a family gathering and just dropped. So I gather it must have been a serious heart attack, or aneurysm, to be that drastic with no warning.

Tom was the longtime editor of Guitar Player magazine, during the 80's and 90's. Chances are pretty good that just about everyone here has drooled at pics as they flipped through one of the many books on guitars that he published. I own a few myself.

Sad--I enjoyed his books & writing...
Even did a spoof version of his old Guitar Player column years ago
I may have o dig that up.

Condolences to his family & friends...

I liked his editorial style, he was a shameless and persistent promoter of all things guitar, but with a reasoned and informed voice.

May he rest in peace.

Before the internet (I know, some 19 year old heads just exploded) and living in a town of 500 people, GP was my connection to the guitar community at large. Tom Wheeler was a monthly fixture in my life, and a positive one at that.

RIP, Mr. Wheeler. You done good!
