A difficult interview in his later years, but then so is Van Morrison, and so was Frank Zappa. Doesn't make any of them less of an artist. Lewis apparently contributed many innovations in film. And while he tended to be a bit of a jerk about it at times, we should all raise so much money for worthy causes by being such a jerk. But he knew what was funny.

I think the first time I ever say him in a film was either The Nutty Professor or The Bellhop, when they were first in the theatre.

I wonder whether the Simpsons will do a John Frink tribute to Lewis in easter-egg form, or retire the character.

He was definitely one of the funniest comedians of our time. He lived to a ripe old 91.
