Hey there from Saskatchewan!

So I've been looking at making some pancake patch cables for my new pedalboard.

Now I'm wondering, what do you guys recommend for making those cables? I was looking at buying some Mogami cable, but my boss (I work for a lighting/audio/DJ company) has a bunch of Digiflex cable laying around.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! (Especially on the brand of Digiflex)

Personally, I think Digiflex would be fine.
Finding pancake plugs at a decent (shipped) cost can be fun.

Just remember to strip the black inner shield off of the insulation on the inner conductor...otherwise the cables can send signal to ground.
Mogami calls it a "sub-shield"

Wouldn't the subshield prevent unwanted connections to the inner conductor?

The polyethylene does that. The subshield reduces noise ...and possibly reduces capacitance? The subshield can conduct.

I get my pancake plugs locally (i.e., no shipping) for $3.36 ea. (13% taxes are included in that). They are Chinese knock offs.

So the pancake plugs from Redco are TRS. I'm fairly new to making patch cables, so would using TS unbalanced cable with TRS jacks be possible? I also don't know if that Digiflex cable is TS or TRS, so if it is TRS, how would one go about using TRS cable and pancake plugs for guitar applications?

TRS plugs will work. I solder the ring and sleeve together on these.

Hopefully, you are not paying more for TRS plugs in comparison to TS plugs.

If the Digiflex cable has 2 internal conductors, you can solder those together and use them both joined as you "hot" to the tip.

I think instrument cable would be better. (as in the pics above)

You then solder the cable shield to the plug (the casing on pancake plug) as your ground. This can be a frustrating adventure.

Doe the above make sense?

What is the power of your iron?

I have two irons, one has a temperature control and the other is from home Depot, I can't remember the power.
I have been making mods on my guitars for a couple of years. So I have plenty of soldering experience, but I just don't know very much "theory".

Don't worry, you are in excellent company here. Most of us struggle with electronics theory.

Switches can make me go pale, break out in a cold sweat and feel very disoriented.
Normally, I just feel a bit disoriented.

Yeah the price with shipping+tax from Redco is almost exactly the same as ordering from the AvShop.ca. Do you have any experience with the AvShop's flat TS plugs? They seem like they'd get the job done
