Hmmmm....muffled neck tone may mean the pick up height needs to be adjusted. I use both PUs for either /or rythmn and lead, depending on the sound I want.

I use both depending on the sound I want. The neck is better for bluesy or soft chords. The bridge for lead or stiffer chord work. But really any position goes depending on the voicing you want to achieve.

with a strat i'll go more towards the neck pickup, depending on the tune. With my sheraton well necks nice for a jazzy/blues sound but the bridge on OD sounds lovely...

For me it really depends on what I am playing. I switch back and forth alot. It also depends on which guitar of mine I'm using as they all have different neck/bridge characteristics.
