Peavey Valveking...

Hi Guys,

Anyone here played the Valveking 1x12 combo? I've replaced the speaker with a Vintage 30 and replaced the tube with JJ's. One thing i've noticed is there is a noticeable delay when switching between gain and clean. It's a cheap amp but I would like to know if there is anyone who might be able to tweak it a bit.

I'm in Regina, SK.

Cheers,

Bill

Try this. http://guitarscanada.com/Board/forumdisplay.php?f=33 :D. When I tried that amp, I was not impressed at all by it. It was just so fizzy with no low end at all. But onto the real help. You only noticed this after the tube was switched? Try switching it back and see if it goes away. If it does, its the tube, if it doesn't then you knocked something loose.
To be honest with you I didn't really try it out that much, it was one of those things where I screwed up and ended up with something i'm not too fond of. Replacing the speaker and tubes really helped with the fizzy stuff though. I ve learned my lesson!

Got any suggestions for good rock amps? I thought I wanted a heavier amp for high gain stuff, but after having this, I would really like a nice warm amp in the tone of the Who or Pearl Jam.
If you wanted high gain, you should have asked me first. Im Mr.HighGain. Im also Mr.WizardNeck somewhere else but for now, Im Mr.HighGain. For lots of good distortion, go with Higher/Mid of Randall. Tube/Solid state hybrids (not the T2 but the V2 because thew V2 kicks ass with a grahpic EQ at the end of it all) or the MTS all tube series. Now if you want to find something used, try a 5150 but you'll only get balls to the wall distortion with not too much warmth unless you really drive the tubes. I had a whole list of artists typed up that use it too. Oh well.

For warthm, lets see, what are all the kids today talking about. The two brands I've never really liked a whole lot because one of them I've never tried. Try Vox amps. I heard they're good. Try the Traynor stuff as well. I never liked the Traynor because it never gave me assloads of distortion (that is a requirement if Im going to spend money on an amp these days). For the "warmth" as you call it though, go with Vox.
I think I read somewhere that the delay problem only happens with non-Valveking switches. The footswitch that's desegned specifically for the Valve King works fine. I have no idea why...

Oh come on now. Must we dance around the issue that they designed is specificly so that people would ONLY buy their stuff?
aren't most of peavey's footswitches designed with a proprietary cable type? I know most of their newer designs are (XXL, XXX, 5150, JSX etc)

(hehe) I was trying to be nice about it! :D

And from what I understand, their proprietary Valveking footswitch isn't cheap either.
you may want to trade it for a classic 30, great little amp with a few mods doene to it, or wait for some mods for the valve king, it's a new amp so not many mods for it yet.

It's $50 direct from their website. It certainly doesn't look worth that much...
