Im definately going to take music in college/university. What I need to know is if this is a good plan:

Take a 4 year Bachelor of Arts in Music

or

or a major in this:

I want to teach music (theory, etc) at a school (I already have a school in mind haha) and I would like to offer private guitar/piano lessons in my spare time. I will also, later, take a course in sound enginnering etc so I can work in the recording industry or sound systems, etc. Do you think this is a good idea?

Dont try and persuade me away from music, because I have made up my mind I will pursue a career in music. :)

Since you have a specific place in mind where you want to teach take a look at what the current teachers there have for education and make sure you get at least what they have, although you may change your mind during the 4 years.

Have you looked into the jazz program at Grant MacEwan in Edmonton and the music programs at Red Deer College? Do you meet the entrance requirements for any of the programs you're interested in?

yeah I meet the requirements quite well.

I never thought about reed deer college at all, so I might check that out. AND MAN...A JAZZ PROGRAM!?!!? I never knew such a thing existed among all these classical guitar schools! Thanks you! Im definately going to get more inofrmation on that.

The current teacher took music in college, but not like a bachelors or anything...but I want to have an education that is high enough that I could work at most schools.

thanks for your help!

In Ontario the only way into Teacher's College (and the only way into the mainstream school system) is to have a university degree. And the competition is fierce. A few of my friends have recently left their jobs and gone to Teacher's College and it's not been a cake walk.

My vote is for a BA in music from a university.
Mt Royal in Calgary has a jazz program too. With most of the college programs you can transfer into university afterwards if you decide you want a full degree instead of just a diploma. University of Lethbridge is definitely worth a look too. University of Calgary is re-starting it's classical guitar program with an excellent teacher so that's definitely worth a look too.
