Came in the post today. This was a trade, with a little bit of $$ on my side.

Gibson SG Standard, Natural, with OX4 PAF pickups, RS Guitarworks vintage wiring. Except for one micro-ding on the back, it is in just about mint condition.

Once it warmed up (it was -19C outside), tuned it up and gave it a whirl. Neck definitely felt different than I thought it was. Slim 60s Taper. I had been playing a Strat with a soft V and a Gibson with a'59 profile before this. But after an hour I was starting to get used to it faster than '59 when I first got that.

I also lowered the pole pieces on the low E string as it sounded a bit boomy. It had 10s I assume, so I just replaced the high E with a 9. Found the sweet spot (for me) on the tone controls. Bridge at 4, Neck at 2. Intonation seems fine. So far so good. Here is a quick pic.

That is a very vintage-y looking piece, you don't see many brown ones. Reminds me of the '72-'73 I had, though no binding on that neck. Now that I think of it, this might be one of the very few guitars where I prefer no binding on the neck, it almost stands out too much.

Nice. I am an SG lover but rarely enjoy one with the small pick guard. That one looks sweet though.

I also thought it was cool that there was only one volume and one tone control. Then I seen the others poking out of the fur from the case.

Congrats!!

Looks very "vintage" somehow.

Admittedly, I know virtually nothing about SGs. However, I like this one very much.

ENJOY!

Beautiful guitar. That approximates the kind of SG I am looking for. Sublte, almost austere in its appointments, but with all the requisite SG goodness. Congratulations on an excellent score. Really gotta get me something along those lines.
