I just figured that when he's 40 these rare pieces of shite might be worth at least double.

TBH, it plays and sounds great. My only complaint is that with two knobs, the tone control should be WAY more useable.

The Larivee RS-2 (?) I had's tone knob was almost an all out wah - incredible.

I took off the tuners and have put them aside. It really is a good guitar and I will consider buying more if they are blowing them out. I got this for very cheap - new.

I'll do up a video of his first go at it.

Cool..I am looking for a Jr. What exactly is it and where did you get it?
I'm not sure of the specs. I got it at a guitar shop in Bolton. Can't remember the name, but it's the one where Brian curry works. $700 plus tax and tuners - you can't go wrong.

Super nice gift, I never owned a nice guitar until I could buy it myself. Hope he appreciates it.

Thanks. Me neither.

He appreciates it for a different reason.

He'll be excited that it's a Gibson les Paul, because it means "rock n' roll" to him. He wants a Gibson Les Paul to go with his Marshall to be like the guys from The Darkness. He actually wanted an epiphone to be like John Lennon.

He's plays every day and I use his perfect pitch to actually teach me. I couldn't figure out where to play a part of zz tops "tush", and he took me right to the notes and played it for me - without ever learning it himself prior.

My kid deserves this guitar :)

Do you think playing on your new Cort is going to get him "close" (from his perspective) to being like John Lennon?

Wanting to be like John Lennon when you are just turning 8 years old in 2016 is really something!

To him, the beatles are the best band ever. It's my wife's doing.

I asked him your question, and he gave me a flat out no. A casino, ricky, walnut (I think) telecaster are all on the list.

That's a pretty sweet gift. My parents bought my first guitar and amp, and I bought the rest. I'm just glad they support that playing guitar is something I have to do :).

An 8 year old into The Beatles, you're gonna be the proud dad of the teenaged guitar god ;)

Nice! I picked one up from Best Buy at the same price... Swapped the tuners too. Have you noticed the brass nut/zero fret developing a groove on any of the strings? Mine started that pretty quick and quite annoying during bends - you could hear a little 'ping' as they skipped in and out of the groove in brass. Found out if you send Gibson customer service an email, they'll send you a titanium replacement nut. Just need to send them a copy of your receipt. Mine just arrived today but haven't had a chance to drop it in yet.

Happy birthday to your son! Great gift!

I think he was a fan since he could hear, but here's a clip of him at 3-4 years old listening to this irritating beatles tune:

I've only strung it up today and played it for 10 minutes (had to get it done before school finished). That's good to know about the nut, thnaks. I'll swap it out and keep the original.
