A new offering from Gibson. Under 1K USF by the looks of it.

I went to a gibson dealer the other day , and the sg gt was 1700 cad ( it's 1700 usd on webstores) , 2300 or something like that for the les paul standard , etc... Is that always the case , and will the bfg be under 1000$ cad ?

I think the bfg looks nice , and seems to have good hardware and pickups for the price...If there's no quality control issues , it looks like a better deal than most les pauls to me .

I think so as well, as long as you are not looking for the highly figured top and the binding, plus no inlays. The pick-up configuration is interesting and I will be waiting for some reviews.

I am not really sure of the rational behind the wood knobs. And the other odd thing I saw on full photos of it is it doesn't have any truss rod cover.

I gotta say I am not a fan. If I wanted a stripped down LP, I would either buy a used Gem, a used 90's Special, or one of the newwer natural finished Studios. All can be had for the same price or less.

I think those things are about as ugly as it gets. Goth, voodoo, faded, goddess, GT, menace................they're all u-g-l-y and don't have no alibi. Gibson is pulling out all the stops with the gimmicks lately. It's kind of sad.

The bottom line is that if they want to sell more guitars, they have to lower thier prices. Most people simply can't afford them.

I agree, they look pretty stupid.

I would go the used studio route :rockon2:

So far the reviews are pretty bad, and I don't think a guitar has made it to a showroom yet. Not looking good for Gibson.

Blasphemy From Gibson. They could have at least waited for Les Paul to pass away so he wouldn't have to see his name on one of those.

On the other hand, they might sound and play great. The kids will love them for 6 months until the novelty wears off and soon after modded versions will flood ebay.

For a mere $3600 US you can get a ltd version with a handwritten serial# and certificate. The difference being the serial# and certificate.

no, they're exactly the same as standards, ( sans binding ) except the back is 1/8" thinner on most models. no idea why

There out grab another niche market or two, just like they are with the Goddess, the Vixen and the GT. I'd buy it if it came with a couple of P90s and standard controls. I don't care how fugly it is, as long as it is a player.

try finding a used standard for under two grand.

why such an enormous discrepancy?

Because there's a big difference in price new , so the studio is considered " cheap " . People who can't buy a standard buy a studio , or try to buy a used standard , so the demand for used standards is high , while the offer for used studios is high too . That's my best guess , I could be wrong though .

Although it looks like an SNL parody commercial, sadly, it isn't. It's just another lame attempt by Gibson to appear "down with the kids these days". You know- the same kids that can't afford thier overpriced guitars.

Well at the risk of jumping on the band wagon, I think it's pretty fugly.

I picked up a used Studio for $600. I'd take it over a refugee from a junior high school shop class any day.
