I sold my Vintage Modern 2266C and bought a JCM 800 2203 and a 2x12 cab from a friend of mine. We managed to meet up today so I've got the beast home now.

The first letter in the serial number (S00151) points to this being an '84 model, provided I am reading the serial number correctly. But I thought there should be a model number too, which doesn't appear on the back panel of this one so I may be reading the serial number incorrectly. Whatever year it is from, this thing sounds glorious - but moronically loud!!!

It does need new knobs, and he has replacements, but he forgot to bring them today. No big deal, I can get them later and put them on then.

The cab is a PRS cab that he had new grill cloth put on (and matching cloth on the amp), and it contains two G12H-75 Creamback speakers.

I got both the amp and the cab for $1400, so I am more than happy with the purchase.

My apologies for the crappy picture, but my proper camera is refusing to recognize even brand new batteries as having any charge so I had to resort to using the camera on my cellphone.

Here is my new rig:

That's the perfect sized amp. Not too small and light enough to be moved around quite easily.

That's also a fantastic deal.

Very cool amp & cab + killer speakers, too.

You can order replacement Marshall knobs, too, if the others don’t pan out. I did this for a JCM800 combo I had a while ago. The original ones had all cracked and split.

I was going to while I was at the store (he used to work at my local L&M so we met up there this afternoon) until he said he had them at home, but had just left them there. I'll get them at some point, no rush.
Yessir, very nice indeed. You might want to invest in an attenuator of some sort, or if you want to do it on the cheap a decent volume pedal.:)

The 100w is only 3db louder than the 50 watt. It's fine^)@#

I knew I saw it somewhere. Makes sense if you know the significance of a 3db jump :D

Congrats on the nice score!

As usual, things are a bit more complicated when talking about wattage and loudness. 3db can be a lot louder if the speakers are also more efficient (Creambacks are 100 db @ 1watt @ whatever distance Celestion uses and the stock Greenbacks in the Vint Modern are 98db... but a 4x12 vs this 2x12 might be enough to compensate for that; sealed vs open back like the combo version can also make a diff)... and if you also end up turning it up more than with a 50 watter to get the same amount of PT distortion....

Sounds like he sourced some, but if you need more or someone else does this is the cheapest I've seen:

Search results for: 'marshall knob'

US$0.56 ea but the shipping takes a while (the shipping ain't much though, like a buck or 2)

50 or 100?

It is the 2203, so the 100 watter.

I am in the middle of placing an order for knobs through the company linked above. Their minimum order is $5 (before shipping) so I had to order ten knobs when I only needed six. Looks like I'll have some freebies to offer up here when they arrive.

Don't get worried when it's been almost a month and they're not here yet. That's what you get for that price (and there won't be any tax or duty).

... you coulda just grabbed a few other things - chicken heads; someone always needs chicken heads ;P

They sent me shipping information yesterday, so it seems that they have shipped the package and the rest is up to the postal service. So that probably means I will receive it six months from next Tuesday.
JCM800 is my favourite Marshall, great score! Happy NAD :)

Somewhat unfortunate but I just saw your post... I have 7 Marshall knobs I kept from my a JCM900 I used to own in the 90's. I have no use for those knobs and they've been sitting there unused for over 20 years now. I'd be glad to give them to someone who needs them... They definitely have the "aged" look... The top looks more silver than gold for some reason... Let me know if you want them and I'll ship them over to you.
