Hey guys, I'm having Derrick Bell make a 2x12 cab for me. I was thinking about going with Celestion speakers because they are lower wattage 30-50 watts on average. But then I read that eminence have basically the same thing for about 1/2 the price. But they are also double the wattage. I'm thinking of going with a Wizard and a private Jack or the Governor

So I am wondering, If I have two 75 watt speakers in a cab, will my Marshall class 5 be powerful enough? I asked Derrick to put in a switch so that with 2 of the 8 ohm speakers I can get 4 ohm for my fender, or switch to 16 ohms for the Marshall. I know the fender amp will be fine its around 35-45 watts depending on what web page you read.

It's all about efficiency and nothing to do with power handling. Unless you want speaker breakup, as Budda said.

A speaker makes noise with 0.1 watts. How much noise it makes it dependent on efficiency and cab design. Power handling is a concern at the other end of the power spectrum.

The difference between the wizard and governor is about 1/2db. 102.3 for the governor and 102.8 for the wizard.

103 dB is quite high. That would make your 5 watt amp as loud as a 10 watt amp with speaker of 100 dB efficiency, which is still quite high.

I believe their FDM speakers, like the Maverick, can be adjusted from 91 to 100 dB. That is great tech for the money, especially compared to something like Fluxtone. I'm sure the Fluxtone is a bit better, but at a 900% premium, it better play itself.

Well, I finally made a cable to go from my amps to the Cab. Tried the Marshall class 5 at 3 on the volume and it is really freaking loud. Compared to stock that is. Sound is excellent, 12" speakers sound so much better than 10's. I then flipped the switch and plugged in the Fender Vibroverb.. drool.... Sounds just 100 times better than the 2x10's in the vibroverb (it has the jenson speakers for upgrade.)
