I’ve owned one Agile, but a Telecaster style, and it was a very nice guitar. I’ve followed the brand over the years and went to the Rondo store once. It’s great that players have this quality at its price point, and a good Agile can be better than a poor Gibson, assuming you like the pickup voicings equally. But I would think that Epiphone is the more direct competitor.

Does a good Gibson warrant the difference in price? I think yes for at least a large portion of that difference. Though I’m quite critical of Gibson at times (“petty” was a word I used here recently), I respect the legacy and the fact that they made the LP design for which Agile is most known. I accept the fact that labour and manufacturing costs are more expensive in North America, but I value supporting that labour (which is not anti-anyone else).

And while resale value is not an intrinsic instrument quality, it does matter. If you love an Agile and keep it, that’s a great deal. If you buy a Gibson, sell it for a good return, and buy another quality instrument (especially that is part of your regional economy), that’s a good deal too.

I agree it matters.
How much would you lose on a $3K-4K Gibson?
How much would you lose on a $600.00 Agile?

Well, first of all, you don’t automatically pay $3k-$4k for a Gibson, even new, so that’s a false argument right there. Secondly I could sell the last Gibson I bought for twice what I paid, so probably about… negative $800?

You’ll notice I didn’t say anything negative about Agile guitars, and I’m by no means a Gibson die-hard.

That is interesting for sure. How long have you owned that Gibson?

Here is what I found for the weight of a Gibson LP and the link. How Much Does a Gibson Les Paul Weigh (All Models) - Guitar Inside Out.

The table below shows the different models of each Gibson Les Paul and the weight of them. These are rough averages rather than specific weights but they will give you a good idea of the whereabouts of each models weight.

A few decades, of course. But that’s my point: a snapshot of a low Agile price and a high Gibson price doesn’t tell the whole story.

Looks like most of the regular-priced Agile LPs are actually $599 USD (presently $800 CAD), some a bit less, and $150 CAD more if you want a case from Rondo. I’m not sure what their shipping/duty situation is. I’m not saying the instrument isn’t a good value but that’s still pretty expensive for me, especially if I can’t play the guitar—or likely even the model—before buying.

Plus I’ve tended not to like Agile’s finishes on LP-style offerings: too many quilts, weird flames, and glitzy bindings. And I don’t know the pickups. If I were in the market and it were an Agile/Gibson choice, I personally would be picking up Tributes and Studios before shelling out a grand for an unplayed Agile. Or I’d be looking at used Gibsons.

(But probably I’d actually be looking at Godins.)

The ones I looked at seem pretty much what one would expect. But c'mon, you're pulling my leg about weighing them all yourself. :D

Such a stupid conversation to compare an agile to a more expensive Gibson. Even dumber to claim how a $600 guitar is as good or better than a $3,000 guitar as a blanket statement. But I'd expect nothing less than this from a moron like steadfastly as he sounds like a broken record trying to reinforce his opinion like its fact. Its great there are guitars like Agile that can give players with a limited budget with a great value guitar. I've owned and own less expensive guitars like this. I certainly don't expect them to be as good as my more expensive guitars but sometimes they give me just as much joy, playing them.

One of these charts holds all the answers to everything, but I’m starting to get confused. Is it the one about Les Paul weights?! Help!!

Yes, people say they are too heavy but they are the same weight as a similar Gibson. Some say they don't sound like a Gibson. No, they don't sound exactly like a Gibson. Neither does a Gibson sound exactly like an Agile or an Ibanez, PRS, Eastman, etc., etc., etc. They are all lame excuses, often because someone paid thousands for a guitar and can't accept that a guitar for less than $600.00 is as good or better.
Look at the "B" hurt of the previous post . Very childish .
Gibson has lost lots of respect in the guitar playing community , with their lawsuits / " Play Authentic " attitude. I know a couple of guys at GC, Gibson isn't a big seller anymore . For that Gibson price , you could buy a PRS or two Keisel guitars, without the Gibson price gauging, QC issues .....

Oh, I think Gibson cares. They have lost a lot of market share over the years and that has bit into their bottom line. The very fact that they are promoting Epiphone so much is that they are hoping to hang onto or gain a little bit of that market share back. The younger generation of buyers are not stuck on the Gibson name as the older generation, much like the North American auto industry. With the internet, it's hard to fool people into believing the marketing that Gibson and to some extent, Fender is using in their claims.
