Hey there, I'm looking to get myself a beginner/intermediate electric guitar and have been looking at the schecter solo 2 or epiphone les paul special. Does anyone have any experience with these or have any other suggestions? Looking to spend up to $500. Thanks for your help

For $500, look at your local used market. $500 can buy a great guitar used. It puts you right in the range of Mexican made and possibly Japanese made Fender guitars on the used market.

Does that $500 include money for an amp as well? Also, what types of music are you interested in playing? $500 puts you right in a very nice sweetspot in the market. Lots of nice epiphones, G&L tributes, entry level Gibsons, entry level Fender, high end squier, mid range Ibanez and Jackson guitars fall into that price range.

With a budget like that, I'm sure we'll be able to help you pick a guitar you can love and grow with!

You can definitely get a great setup as Ron has said. The Schecter you mention is alright, but you should be able to find something a little nicer on the used market. You can pick up a used Epi LP Standard for under $500 if you look around, for example.

I would go with Budda's advice. Try looking on Kijiji at around $600.00 or so and see what you can find.
